Trauma Therapy
Working with Trauma
Life is full of wear and tear. Starting from childhood, it’s a miracle we’ve all made it this far. Yet old wounds don’t always heal the way we would like them too. In fact, you may not even be aware of how they affect your daily life.
From relationships, to work, to family, you’ve spent years building up a life which is shaped by these experiences. Your habits, routines, coping skills, and trust in others are often automatically organized in your brain to accomplish one task.. minimize pain.
From a nature perspective this makes a lot of sense, however, by avoiding these difficult feelings and emotions the pain can often become stronger and cause more problems in our lives.
As a therapist, I can help you build the resiliency and skills needed to start healing your trauma and reclaim your life. I approach each session from a non-judgmental place and help you build a strong foundation of safety before exploring your trauma history.
My approach to trauma therapy
While traditional talk therapies can be helpful for building coping skills, reframing beliefs and aligning oneself with core values, it is usually not enough to heal unresolved trauma.
You cannot talk your way out of trauma symptoms. This is a big reason why people are often stuck for years without any progress in their healing.
In order to really get at the root of the problem, one needs to dig a little deeper.
As your therapist, we will work on more than just “symptom management” I will help you work with your nervious system utilizing techniques such as somatic exposure therapy and mindfulness skills.
Trauma processing can be scary and unsettling. For this reason it is essential for you to be in the drivers seat when it comes to your trauma healing journey.
My role is to help facilitate the process and guide you along the way.
I strongly believe you are capable of your own healing. You dont have to be alone in facing your trauma.
